Frequently Asked Questions (and answers)

They are made of resin, so each piece is robust and will last you a lifetime. They will not break or crack as easily as one made from polymer clay may.

I start by sculpting each figure in a special wax, it’s built up drip by drip and blended and carved into, smoothed and finally polished. Then I split the sculptures up into arms legs etc for easier moulding, and make a silicon mould from which the final resin pieces are cast.

The parts are then re-assembled, tidied up, primed and painted. Finally the finishing touches are added such as Swarovski crystal earrings and then it’s fixed to a relevant base.

What are the figures made from?

How long do they take to make?

In total a wedding couple takes around 2 weeks to make.

Each figure takes approximately 2 days to sculpt. Then they need to be moulded, cast, re-assembled, primed, painted and attached to a base.  Obviously the more figures and complexity the longer they take to make.

Can you do other subjects?

In a word YES.

Children, pets, cars.... in fact almost anything you can think of can be sculpted for you.

This will usually increase the cost.

Could I be sculpted as a Super Hero?

Anything you want to be can be made into a sculpture… it’s only limited by your imagination.

Can you do any pose?

Usually yes. As long as you let me know what you want before i start the sculpt. For example if you want to be Superman flying with your bride… I would need to incorporate a way to hold your sculptures so they are ‘flying’ above the base.

Do you do toppers for other occasions?

Certainly. I’ve made sculptures for a Christening, Wedding Anniversaries and Birthdays. I have recently been asked to make one for a retirement, but ANY occasion that you want to celebrate can be commemorated with a miniature sculpture. Is someone graduating soon? Have they won any sports trophies or awards? The sculpture could even BE the award… anything you need can usually be accommodated.

Do you only do cake toppers?

NO. Anything you want to celebrate, commemorate or even just give as a gift we can come up with a sculpture for you. If you want a marble or bronze piece we can also make these. Don’t just think they have to be on a cake, they could be larger or just of a pet or child. If you want a portrait sculpture (bust) in any scale contact us and we’ll be more than happy to discuss your requirements.

I don’t live locally, can you send the topper to me?

Of course we can, subject to postal and insurance charges. Each piece is packaged in it’s own box and then safely packed in another box if it’s to be delivered.

We can also send abroad, although this will require longer leadtimes to ensure the sculpture is delivered in time.

How soon do i need to place my order?

The sooner the better - because each sculpt takes a couple of weeks to make, the schedule can soon get very busy.

They can be any size you want on average they tend to be around 5” or 13cm tall.

Are the toppers fragile?

Some of the detailing on the toppers can be very intricate, such as fingers, and will need careful handling, but as they are made from resin they are vastly more robust than their polymer clay counterparts, and certainly more detailed. It’s best to handle them by the base and support the figures around the waist area.

Can you replicate any wedding dress?

Yes. Obviously due to the scale of the sculptures some details may need to be suggested but I can get them pretty close.

Can you recreate uniforms such as Police, Military or Firefighters?

Yes. As long as I have good photographs as reference then any uniform can be recreated.

What kind of pictures do you need to work from?

You may send pictures that you already have (and I do want some of those) but I will need photos taken especially for this project. Once you place your order I will send you a photo guidelines sheet showing the kind of pictures I will need you to take and send to me.
